Creating 'Redeemed'

At around 2 A.M. on January 29, I had the idea to create a drawing of the cross after the resurrection of the Messiah. The final product turned out to be probably my favorite (and best) works of art so far due to the clean coloration of the composition, the overall symmetry, the symbolism, and message.

The original inspiration came from a picture that I had made into my phone wallpaper awhile ago, with a wooden cross overlooking an elegant sunrise/sunset.

with this idea in mind I started drawing a cross that was made from two uneven wooded planks that would be held together by rope. I also searched up Golgotha (the place where He was crucified) into Google so I could get a better understanding of what the surrounding area may look like.

For the sky I wanted to try something different, so I went to Youtube and found a video tutorial on how to paint a more realistic looking sunset digitally as I've never done so before. I found a tutorial by user Jame Julier Art Tutorials which gave me the basic template for what I had to do (though I really didn't watch the full video, just skimmed to different parts to get the idea).

As I was working, I was becoming very pleased with how the sky and background elements began to look. With this I would continue creating my favorite drawing.

I had the idea to put a dove with an olive branch perched on one of the pieces of wood to not only symbolize hope (as the dove was used to give Noah hope for the beginning of God's new covenant), but also the Holy Spirit as it is described as a dove after Jesus gets baptized. Overall, one can say that the whole trinity is being symbolized in the piece with the dove being the Spirit, the cross being the Son, and the extravagant sunrise accompanied by the ever-glowing sun to be the Father.
