My Recent Portrait

My friend Jolie's birthday was coming up so as part of her gift, I decided to create a portrait of her. Going into this project, I was somewhat worried that I wouldn't be able to create a piece that was that accurate to the original reference or look as good as I had wanted. This was because the last portrait of an actual person I drew was nearly a year ago, and was more of an experimental self-portrait where I had used Procreate instead of iBisPaint X.

The style of this previous drawing was fairly different than what I've created in the past, though I still did enjoy making it and liked the final result.

For the picture of Jolie I returned to iBisPaint X to create a work that I wanted to be colorful, interesting, and accurate to the original reference.

I began by creating an outline before adding colored layers for the skin, hair, and shirt. Afterwards I continued with the hardest part (adding the details). Since the original wasn't as saturated, I decided to not only to use more vibrant colors to shade the picture, but also added an interesting background to contrast the colors of the main object.
